It's Friday and you know what that means, it's Ask the Designer Friday feature. I hope you're having a wonderful day and that you've had a happy week. So I'm sitting here in my kitchen that I renovated two years ago and it was a huge transformation actually. Right where I'm sitting now there used to be a wall and in fact there were two walls and I decided to remove that and to create more of an open feeling area, connect the kitchen with the dining room, create seating which I'm sitting on now, the bar or the counter stool and I'm so thrilled with my kitchen.
I’ll do a walkthrough on another video at another time, so stay tuned for that. I am here also just thinking, okay, well, who's gonna join us today? So hopefully you have some time to spend with me to talk about decorating or design, and there's always so much to cover and to talk about, and I really encourage you to ask a question or two and let me know what's on your mind. And maybe you have a project that you're thinking of starting in the summer.
Perhaps you're, maybe you're planning for something later in the year or next year, and you need some questions answered. So I'm here as your resource to give you professional feedback and some recommendations.
So I was saying I'm sitting here in my kitchen that I renovated two years ago. I fully transformed my kitchen. This house was built in 1957 and it had one renovation and where you see the illuminated cabinet and the faucet there used to be a window and the window was ginormous. It was way too big for the space and it must have been, if I recall correctly, 55 inches wide and almost I think about 42 or 44 inches high and guess what it looked out onto?
A brick wall! My neighbour's house, the garage actually. I thought you know what am I really losing much? No I'm not. So I decided to take advantage of the vertical wall space and put cabinetry there and rather than having a sea of cabinets, I decided to have this illuminated cabinet that you can see over my shoulder and have the opportunity to display some prettier pieces and to change it out, kind of like a gallery. I have a gallery in my kitchen. And I also installed recessed lights in there too, to further highlight the little treasures that I have in there. I really enjoy it.
So talking about space modification where it comes to removing a wall or two like I did here in my kitchen. So before we continue, I just wanted to talk a little bit about what I'm wearing today and this is a long chemise I guess you could say it's not really a dress but it is sort of goes you know down to my shins'; it's a sheath dress.
Two years ago I had the great privilege to take an adventure to Morocco for 11 days it was It was incredible and I can't wait to go back. And I had the luxury, and I'm so grateful for it, of traveling around the country over 11 days, doing a complete circle, starting off in Casablanca, going north, then going through the Atlas Mountains, visiting the Sahara, going over to Marrakesh and then back to Casablanca. So I saw so much and I found this lovely piece in the city of Fez, which is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and has one of the longest running operating universities in the world. It was founded in 857 and it's still functioning. Just a beautiful time.
I just wanted to put on something casual and comfortable and it's loose and it's just so colourful as you can see. And what I like to do in interior decorating, particularly in my house, is to use saturated colour. This is what I like to find out when I work with my clients, is to discover what do they want to envelop themselves in, in their home.
