Chic Living Room

My clients, a young couple, pre-children days, called us in to modernize their fabulous renovated Beach house from a dark and outdated living room to a modernized, bright and inviting gathering space. It had to be chic and luxurious for them, as well as thinking forward to a practical everyday living space for a family with children.

We translated this into a chic and colourful palette of durable velvets, wool, soft textures
and rounded edges.

I like to infuse my client’s spaces with their personal memories to truly customize their home.
My clients told me that the Taj Mahal, India, held a special memory for them. I decided to
make a graphical statement of the Taj, rather than using a photo. I worked with a graphic designer
who I had asked to digitize the Taj to create an abstract impression of it. This was then installed
on a custom sliding panel to hide the black hole – the television – when it wasn’t being used.
